Conducting a Thematic Search

The thematic search box allows you to search the data lake for topics or themes. This allows you to narrow your search to specific topics of interest. The thematic search box can be used in two ways:

  • Used alone to search for a list of manually input keywords
  • Used simultaneously with the company search bar to look for documents co-mentioning the company and these keywords

Simplified Themes Search Box

You can search any theme of interest (e.g. lawsuits, recalls, fines, etc.) or select one of the predefined themes, which aggregates keywords on that topic.

For more complex searches, use the Advanced Theme Builder.

Advanced Theme Builder

The Advanced Theme Builder allows you to create (and save) more advanced themes, including boolean operators.

When using the Advanced Builder, remember to press “Enter” after each keyword or phrase.

The operator menu allows you to view and select the available operators. The desired operator can be selected by pressing the enter key or by clicking on it.

The NEAR operator allows you to specify mandatory keywords that should be matched in the document within an x-word proximity. Read more about how to use the NEAR operator here.

The Syntax Helper will appear when a query has errors, guiding you through the necessary corrections.
